InkCanvas is a browser-based content editor and delivery system for ESP32-C3 e-paper devices. After connecting over USB Web Serial, you can back up and flash firmware, compose screens, and send a single frame or multi-page playlist from Chrome or Edge without installing a desktop application.
Features
- First-use backup flow: Reads and downloads the device's 4 MB Flash before installing third-party firmware
- Visual composition: Adds text, images, rectangles, and dividers with pixel-level movement and resizing
- Multi-page playlists: Assigns an independent dwell time to each page
- Monochrome controls: Supports threshold and Bayer dithering, inversion, and 180° rotation
- USB and Wi-Fi delivery: Sends frames over Web Serial and also exposes HTTP APIs in Wi-Fi or AP mode
- Project portability: Imports and exports complete projects as JSON
Browser and firmware limits
Full functionality requires desktop Chrome 90+ or Edge 90+; Firefox and Safari do not support Web Serial. The project installs third-party firmware, so back up Flash and confirm the ESP32-C3, UC8251D, and 4 MB Flash requirements first. E-paper uses multi-second full refreshes and is not suitable for continuous video.
